No-Margarine Muddy Buddies

A deliciously addictive snack you will find yourself reaching for again and again

I am not a huge cereal person. I prefer what I call “real” food. I’ll have toast and eggs for breakfast. A yogurt with fruit and granola. But if there are muddy buddies, I can eat the whole thing in one sitting! I was at my friend’s house, about 15 years ago. She served this as a dessert at her Shabbos meal. I went crazy over them! Been making them ever since, though I tweaked quite a few things over the years.

The original recipe calls for margarine, I skip. I don’t find it necessary. There’s plenty of cream from the peanut butter. I now melt the chocolate chips and peanut butter in the oven, it comes out perfect every time whereas I used to be busy with a double boiler or microwaving the recipe risking the chocolate scalding and seizing up.

If you don’t want your family eating the whole thing before Shabbos, stick it in the freezer and label it liver. (True story!!)

I’ve tried making this with off-brand cereal. I don’t love it that way; I find it tends to get soggy. I like to stick to the General Mills Chex.

Here is a pretzel version of this recipe xxx
