Make this candy board and every kid will love you. Not so sure about the adults, though…

Jokes aside, candy boards are great to serve on Purim or at a Friday night oneg, a birthday party, a family get-together — okay, just about any occasion works!

Boards of all kinds have been popular for a while now, and it’s so much fun to get creative with arranging different foods on a board. The best part about making boards is that there are really no set rules. You can put on whatever you want, arrange it however you want, anything goes!

For a candy board, if you don’t it to be straight sugar and junk, you can add some healthier options, like dried or cut-up fresh fruit or even crackers or flatbreads. However you do it, remember to have fun!

Directions for Candy Board with Surprise Cookies

  • Bake surprise cookies (see recipe below). If you want a simpler cookie, you can (of course!) use any kind. Here’s a link to my basic chocolate chip cookies.
  • Stock up on your favorite candy!
  • Take a big “board.” It can be round, square, a platter, a cookie sheet, anything you can find in the house! (I once used a wooden insert from a puzzle!)
  • Start with the cookies, using them as a base. Line them up in a zigzag pattern down the middle.
  • Add a small bowl with loose candies near the row of cookies. This will help anchor in the rest of the candy.
  • Fill in the rest of the board with different types of candy in rows or sections.
  • If you don’t want to do all candy, you can also add other small cookies or even some cut-up fruit or crackers for people who don’t want a sugar overload. There are really no rules—just have fun!

  • Place all cookie dough ingredients in a mixing bowl. Mix by hand until combined.
