Apple Cherry Crumble
The perfect combo of tart, crisp apples mixed with sweet, soft cherries and topped with a delicious oat-based crumb, this apple cherry crumble is delectable as a sweet side or warm dessert!

While I have lots of crumble recipes, this apple cherry crumble is one of my favorites. I love the added texture the oatmeal gives. In fact, I often double or triple the crumbs and keep them in my freezer to use as a topping for cakes, cookies or other fruit crisps.
This apple cherry crumble uses fresh apples and canned pie filling. I love the flavor of cherry pie filling but I’m always hesitant to it because there’s more junk and added sweeteners in it than fruit. Recently I discovered that a lot of companies have started making pie fillings with no added high fructose corn syrup or other unhealthy ingredients, which I’m much happier using. You can easily get these better-for-you pie fillings at your local grocery — here’s a link for one so you can see what I’m referring to.
I love oven-to-table dishes like the one I used for this crumble. It makes serving so much easier, especially with something like a fruit crisp that you can’t dish out to serve — if you make it in a disposable, that’s what’s going on your table. This recipe makes two round pans or one 9×13. I find that a round pan is usually enough to serve, so I like to split the recipe two and put one straight into the freezer for another week.
I serve this as a Shabbos or Yom Tov side dish, because I love having something sweet with a savory meal. However, if you’d rather, you can totally serve this as a dessert slightly warmed with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
This recipe freezes very well. You can easily double or triple it to have on hand in the freezer.
